In Bali there is a tradition that babies are not placed on the floor for 6 months because they are still with God. They are not yet identifying themselves with this world. They are just present.
In ‘A New Earth’ Tolle explains that as we begin to grow we start to identify ourselves with the sounds that make up our name. We then begin to find identity through our toys and experiences. As we become adults those toys and experiences just become bigger.
As we move through our lives we begin to forget our true selves and look to possess identities.
When these ‘things’ are removed from us we feel a great sense of loss on many occasions but if we choose to ‘remember’ who we are, the essence of our being, we would free ourselves from the fear of loss and the feeling of loss if these situations arise.
When we first meet someone we usually ask ‘So what do you do?’. And we begin to unload a pile of identities that we have created for ourselves. I work here, I studied here, I have this many children etc.
I wonder what the reaction would be if we answered ‘I endeavour to work in the ever present state of I AM.’ I imagine there would be a few strange looks, unless they understood what this meant.
We continually try to identify ourselves with things and accomplishments, however if we decided to ‘work from within’ to create our outer experience we would experience so much more than the temporal joy of ‘things’. We think that these ‘things’ will make us happy but we often find the feeling a little disappointing when we get there.
Many great philosophers have written about this and a running theme is placing importance on ‘knowing ourselves’.
It takes courage to stand for something different.
Einstein once said;
‘Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds’.
When you choose to become aware of the egoic world (the world formed by the ego) you will meet people who think that they have it better organized than you because they have a bigger house, or a nicer car, a better job and will try to convince you that their way is the way you should be heading. This is where it takes courage to ‘know’ that you understand something greater than temporal form. Some would call it faith.
Remember...
Happy Manifesting!
